Skyfall

In the latest 007 action thriller James Bond's loyalty to M is put to the test when her past comes back to haunt her and top-secret MI6 files are leaked — meaning the identities of each and every undercover agent placed in terrorist rings around the world may be compromised.
When the agency itself comes under attack, Bond finds himself on a mission that takes him from Istanbul to the South China Sea to track down and destroy the threat, no matter the personal cost. But as secrets about M's past are revealed along the way, the agent finds himself questioning his loyalty to her.

Although Skyfall was the biggest and most successful bond movie get, wasn't it really the smallest in terms of the plot. Skyfall , in my opinion, lacked in what 007 is all about - A memorable villain, futuristic weaponry and of course the cars! In this installment there was no real car chases or action and I though that from the start the plot just went down hill. I found the movie to be rushed, there was many times where key aspects and scenes were left out. The end was boring and i though that it took Silva too long to die.  I also didn't enjoy the fact that this movie was in fact more about M than James Bond.

On a more positive note, I enjoyed Q's character. The sets and special effects were very realistic.

There's always next time ...

TOP10 Tablets 2012

Friday, 14 December 2012

Its been a very interesting and exiting year for the Tablet market. These are my Top10 Tablets that I think have made their mark in consumer technology in 2012.

1.) iPad Mini
2.) Microsoft Surface
3.) Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
4.) Sony Vaio Duo 11'
5.) Kindle Fire 7' HD
6.) iPad with Retina Display
7.) Nexus 7
8.) Samsung Galaxy Tab 7' II
9.) Blackberry Playbook 4G
10.) Google Nexus 10'

Just generally, the reason why I put the iPad mini as my #1 tablet for 2012 and the iPad with Retina display as 6th is because i think many people, now that the iPad Mini is out, are going to forget about the iPad and go for the iPad mini basically because it more affordable, definitely more portable and it has a 'cuteness' factor. Right now in Consumer Technology consumers want smaller tablets and bigger phones, and if Apple got one thing right this year- its that they made a larger iPhone and a smaller iPad. However I believe that their decision is going to change their company.

Another company which stood out this year to me was Amazon's Kindle. I think Amazon made a bold but rewarding decision with their Kindle Fire range. At the kindle event early on this year Jeff Bezos (the CEO of Amazon) said that Consumers weren't only looking for a company that had an amazing tablet but a company that provided them with services. With their Kindle Fire HD, i think its very clear that Services is their main objective, they enhanced the device from an unappealing box-like shape to a smooth curved device with elegant tapered edges.

The Blackberry Playbook 4G was great but after all a tablet can only be as good as the apps available for it - and that fact separates blackberry devices from being in the top 5.

TOP10 Smartphones 2012

Friday, 14 December 2012
Its been a very interesting and exiting year for the smartphone market. These are my Top10 smartphones that i think have made their mark in consumer technology in 2012.

1.) Samsung Galaxy SIII
2.) Google Nexus 4
3.) Samsung Galaxy Note II
4.) iPhone 5
5.) Nokia Lumia 920
6.) HTC 8X
7.) HTC One X +
8.) Sony Xperia S
9.) Nokia Lumia 820
10.) Blackberry Bold 9900

Just generally, the reason why I put the Samsung Galaxy SIII as my #1 smartphone for 2012 is because the SIII was by far the most interesting and unique phone. I really liked the fact that Samsung listened to their customers and made a phone that was exactly what the consumer wanted - A phone that understood what they wanted , when they wanted it and did it!

For me the iPhone 5, and in general all of the Apple products this year weren't exiting enough, to me it feels as though Apple just made minor adjustments to all of their products and software, and if you aren't sure of what i'm saying get an iPad (3rd Generation) and an iPad (4th Generation) put them side by side and tell me which is which... Thats the reason why I placed the iPhone 4th instead of higher.

The Surface

Thursday, 13 December 2012

The surface is a unique hybrid of a laptop and a tablet. In many ways its the way forward for the personal computer.

                                                                   On The Surface

The overall design of the The Surface is seem-less with engineering precision; the tablet is a joy to hold and operate. The Surface includes many ports (including a full Size USB port). The build of the device is amazingly tough and at the same time premium, Microsoft calls this finish VapourMg. It also comes with a built in 'Kick Stand' which allows the user to watch movies without the need to hold the tablet for the duration.

Below The Surface

The Surface runs Windows 8 RT or Pro. Windows 8 RT is a version of Windows 8 specially designed for tablets. Like the iPad with this version you can only run apps which have been altered for the Surface but with Windows 8 Pro, you can download and run any applications available for PCs running windows 8. Every Surface comes with a Preview version of the much anticipated Microsoft Office 2013.

Space

There has been much speculation towards the surface with Users saying that the Hard drive space of the device is used up by Microsoft's Software (both Windows 8 RT and Office 2013) leaving you with little space for your files but take in account that ...

1.) Microsoft gives you a free Office suite, which many other companies don't.
2.) The Surface has a SD card slot built in which enables you, the user, to buy a cheap SD card which
will give you the most 64GB of extra storage and it has a USB slot which means you can connect a external hard drive to the device.

Conclusion

Out of all the tablets on the market at the moment , i think that Surface is by far the best. The defining factor that separates the Surface from the rest of the tablets ... is that it serves as a fully functionally computer which a tablet like an iPad is incapable of...

Price

The Surface Prices are said to be competitive with the iPad. The Surface options are RT or  Pro, 32GB For the entry level 32GB without a touch cover...

United States : $499
China: RMB 3688
United Kingdom: £399

In my words the birth of the Surface is the death of  Laptops.
